Many of us who have chronic pain and illness have our lives focused on the pain and medical treatments we seek out. So, it’s no surprise that most of our conversations with other people center on our pain journey.

And sometimes, it may seem to other people, that all we do is complain. For me the onslaught of another flare-up is not just spring rain. It’s a deluge. So, it’s easy for me to get caught in negative thoughts and words. But all I really want is for someone to hear me and acknowledge that I’m going through difficult waters.

But regardless of how we feel, if we want to have meaningful relationships, we need to stop complaining and find something positive to talk to our friends and loved ones about.

There is some One though, who is ready to hear our cry for help. He never tires of our pounding on His door or of our seeking shelter from the storm of pain that’s all around us.

This is what the Bible verse below talks about. David was in distress because the current king of Israel, Saul, was pursuing him. David hadn’t done anything wrong to warrant this threat on his life. Saul was just jealous of his popularity with the people.

David turned to his friends and loved ones. Not all of them were supportive, but his friends never heard David blame God for his problems. David didn’t give up on God. He went straight to Him.

In this, David found something positive to talk to others about—God’s faithfulness.

God is ready to hear your cry for help, also. Read the whole Psalm and you will see how God turned David’s distress into victory. He can do the same for us.

Psalm 18:6 – In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
